Soon to be a player in the feeding game is Burger & Beer Joint at 1766 Bay Rd., expected to open in August and offering all varieties of its namesake as well as a full blown soda fountain serving up egg creams, shakes and adult beverages. Owners Buzzy Sklar and Ron Garcia tell us the decor will feature 120-year-old Chicago brick walls, wood booths, copper ceilings and an outdoor patio. The place will be perfect for big mouths whom you may be able to shut up with the 10-pound Mammoth Burger, described as ”big as a manhole cover and can easily feed a reality TV family.” Step right up, Kardashians! Also within, a sports bar with 10 flat screen TVs, pool table and $5 beers and $8 cocktails. Upstairs, The B&B Lounge features local DJs and bands and a decor, according to the owners, that will ”remind you of a Victorian brothel meets a speakeasy of the early 1900s.” Brothel chic. We love it. Oh, and bottle service will be offered at reasonable prices but won’t be mandatory for a table. ”We want people to be comfortable, we want to make strangers friends and friends family,” Sklar says.
