FORT LAUDERDALE – About 160 people in Broward County were arrested Thursday and Friday in a crackdown by federal and local law enforcement agencies on the illegal sale of prescription drugs.
In statement released just before midnight Friday, Sheriff Al Lamberti announced the arrests made as part of Operation Summer Slam. The Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and the Lauderhill and Sunrise police departments in the two-day bust.
The operation targeted people suspected of illegally selling and distributing prescription medication as well as prostitution, street-level drug deals and fugitives with outstanding warrants.
Officers confiscated 26 guns, five vehicles, more than $20,000 in cash and an assortment of illegal drugs including prescription pills, powder and crack cocaine and marijuana. BSO’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested two men, each on multiple counts of possession of child pornography.
