Miami Massage Parlors: In Miami Shores, It’s Nix on Flicks

The PlayGround Theatre wants to show movies and draw crowds to NE 2nd Avenue, but there’s one little problem
You’d think movies and the old Shores Theater at 9806 NE 2nd Ave. would go together as naturally as buttered popcorn and Coke. But you would be wrong. Why? Because movie theaters are outlawed in Miami Shores.
Doesn’t matter if the theater is called the Shores Theater or its successor, the PlayGround Theatre, a live venue for acclaimed children’s theatrical productions, now in its sixth season. No cinemas. Period. (Also banned in the village: abortion clinics, adult novelty stores, amusement arcades, bingo halls, car washes, escort services, massage parlors, mechanical repair shops, modeling agencies, pawn shops, psychics, palm readers, and spiritualists.)
A growing number of merchants and civic activists are trying to change law, and village officials are starting to pay attention to the possibility of allowing independent, classic, or art-house films that never make it to multiplexes.

ADDICTS CALL IT a God-sized hole, a hollowness in the soul. It leaks no matter how much they try to fill it — and at what cost. For years, George filled his emptiness with pornography, erotic massage and, eventually, sex for hire. There was no tenderness. Even pleasure was rare because every time George engaged in his obsessive sexual behaviors, he felt dirty and even emptier than before.

Miami Massage Parlors: Miami-Dade police raid massage parlors offering sexual favors

Miami-Dade police raid massage parlors offering sexual favors
By Diana Moskovitz
The Miami Herald
About a dozen people were arrested Tuesday in a crackdown on massage parlors that allegedly offered sexual services in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
The investigation, dubbed Operation Fallen Angel, led Miami-Dade police to six massage parlors in Miami-Dade and one in South Broward.
Police said their owner and operator, Michael Angelini, 47, of Miami Beach, would apply for occupational licenses using his brother’s name. Then, a few “trusted girls’ would teach the new girls how to perform sexual acts with clients while making it look as though they were providing “body scrubs,’ police said.
Angelini made $30,000 to $40,000 a month, police said. He ran the parlors for about 12 years, police spokesman Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said.

All seven massage parlors were shut down Tuesday. Miami-Dade police identified them as:

Miami Massage Parlors: They’re No Angels

Miami-Dade police conducted a massive raid on massage parlors they claim were a hotbed of prostitution.
Called “Operation Fallen Angel,” the raid focused on seven parlors throughout Miami-Dade and Broward, all owned and run by Michael Angelini.
Angelini, 47, of Miami Beach, three managers, and six of his ladies were all busted in the operation that went down around 2 p.m. yesterday, and were charged with racketeering, money laundering and prostitution.
“The girls that were working inside the massage parlors were giving happy endings,” said Sgt. Nicole Donnelly, with the Miami-Dade Police Dept.
The services were called “body scrubs,” police said, and the operation, which had been running for over a decade brought in between $30,000 and $40,000 per month for Angelini.

“All of his massage parlors were all set up to sell beauty supplies and throughout all the massage parlors, nothing was being sold,” Donnelly said. “It’s still against the law, it’s still prostitution.”
