Florida Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Traveling to the Philippines in Sex Tourism Case

Mathias, 64, was also sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge William Peter Dimitrouleas to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term and to pay $200,000 in restitution to his victims. The funds will be transferred to a trust fund established for their benefit. The court also ordered Mathias to forfeit real property in order to satisfy the restitution amount. Mathias pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Dec. 22, 2009, to four counts of traveling in foreign commerce and engaging in illicit sexual conduct. He was indicted on those charges on Oct. 27, 2009.

A Davie man was sentenced Tuesday to 20 years in prison for traveling to the Philippines to have sex with two underage sisters while the girls’ mother videotaped the encounters.
Donald Mathias, 64, demanded the preteen sisters call him “Daddy Boss” and forced them to sign contracts as his “sex slaves.” The girls were 11 and 12 years old when he first preyed on them in April 2007.
Mathias pleaded guilty in December to four counts of traveling internationally to engage in sexual conduct with minors. Commonly referred to as “sex tourism,” it is a federal crime for a U.S. resident to visit another country intending to have sex with a minor.
As part of Mathias’ plea agreement, prosecutors and his attorney recommended that U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas sentence him to two decades behind bars and order him to pay $200,000 in restitution to the girls. Dimitrouleas approved the plea deal in a brief sentencing hearing at the Fort Lauderdale federal courthouse.
