Law enforcement authorities arrested 84 people last week in a three-day sweep aimed at finding underage girls who have been forced into prostitution.
The arrests were part of Operation Cross Country, a joint task force with the FBI, Miami-Dade, Miami Beach and Miami police, along with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
“We’re targeting juvenile prostitutes posting on Internet sites and also street walkers,” said Sgt. Nicole Donnelly, with Miami-Dade police. “We’re attempting to rescue and recover these juveniles to get them off this life they are now living in. We are putting them into different types of programs to get their lives back on track, where they actually should be.”
The task force made nine arrests in Broward and 75 in Miami-Dade County. Of the arrests in Miami-Dade, 24 were made on Miami Beach. A 14-year-old girl was also rescued in the Miami Beach sweep, authorities said.

The two, David Pierre, 34, and Jenna Linden, 24, were sentenced in federal court after they both pleaded guilty to charges of sex trafficking of a minor earlier this year. Pierre was sentenced to 10 years in prison; Linden, to five years. Both sentences include a period of supervised release as sex offenders, authorities said Tuesday in a statement.
Authorities said that Pierre ran an escort service from his Fort Lauderdale home in 2008 that he advertised online. Linden helped Pierre in transporting the girls to customers throughout South Florida, according to a press release from the investigations branch of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.
In November 2008, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were discovered by agents to be victims of the escort service, authorities said.

A man thought he was ordering female companionship until a gun was pressed against his head at a Hollywood hotel.
A 28-year-old man from Doral was staying at the Day’s Inn, 2601 N. 29th Ave., when he called an escort service.
Between 5:30 and 5:35 a.m. Oct. 8 two women in their early 20s appeared at his door and told him he would have to pay $250 up front.
He told police he gave them the money, which they handed over to a man who was standing outside the door.
The victim told police the man left with his money and the two women appeared to be “very nervous and possibly under the influence of an unknown substance.”
They suddenly decided to leave the room and he followed them to get his money back. He saw them in the parking lot standing next to a silver Honda Accord with the man who had taken his money.
