Caroline Manzo of the “Real Houswives of New Jersey” denies family mob ties. But I wouldn’t mess with her as a mom. Would you?
In our weekly review of “Real Housewives of New Jersey” parenting styles, we haven’t talked much about Caroline Manzo. In last night’s reunion show, she was called out on two counts as a mom: Supporting her son’s decision to run a strip club and calling daughter, Lauren Manzo, ’stupid.’
Caroline, who viewers have called a female Tony Soprano–despite her impassioned denial of Manzo family mob ties– can be a bully, even a bit thuggish, on the show. She called Danielle Staub “garbage” last night as they bickered yet again about the “Cop Without a Badge” revelations. But as a mom, she stands behind her kids without seeming to take any crap from them, and that’s good.

Lastly, Andy looks at Caroline – whom he is clearly intimidated by. And who can blame him? All the same, she is far and away my favorite housewife, because she’s smart, she calls it like she sees it, and if you don’t like it, she’ll sic her attack dog on you. He asks her about her son owning a strip club and about her daughter being stupid and she handles all the questions with her usual aplomb. And I have to agree that her kids are well adjusted. Comparatively. Andy saves the most dangerous questions for last, tentatively bring up the idea that the family has Mafia ties. Which Caroline denies, stating that the murder of her father in law, Albert “Tiny” Manzo was never solved, a painful fact the family still struggles with. Which is clear enough, as Dina tearfully asks her to stop talking about it, mentioning that many of their kids had not heard the grisly facts before the media caught hold of the story. Which, I agree, is unfortunate and is a topic that I had, thus far, steered clear of. Murder, regardless of alleged mafia ties, is not for entertainment.

What a scandalous Real Housewives’ season it’s been; from a book about Danielle Staub being revealed to the audience that makes claims about her naughty past (stripping, drugs, and even kidnapping charges), to rumors of a mafia connection with Dina Manzo. This makes the hoity-toity Real Housewives of LA seem like a plastic, rodeo-drive shopping, mimosa sipping, snore-fest (oh, wait, it was).
After the finale episode, which showed one of the Real Housewives of New Jersey flipping a table in anger, some have dug even deeper into the claims in the book Cop Without A Badge, which paints Danielle Staub’s past in a not-so-flattering light. The Smoking Gun reportedly got a hold of documents that verify many of those claims, including the allegation that Staub was once an escort girl.

Jacqueline Laurita was the only housewife who came to Danielle Staub’s defense during the fiery June 16 Real Housewives of New Jersey finale showdown.
Now, Laurita – who famously betrayed her sisters-in-laws Dina and Caroline Manzo by claiming that Dina uncovered the book about Staub’s crime-ridden past – tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands today) she and Staub no longer speak. (On Tuesday, federal court records surfaced detailing Staub’s deep involvement in a kidnapping plot, a $24,000 drug deal and an “escort service” – all of which she denies.)
“I am not friends with Danielle,” Laurita emphatically tells Us Weekly.
Adds the mother-of-three (who welcomed a boy, Nicholas, June 11): “She has never seen the baby, nor will I ever show her. I learned my family was right about her all along.”
